“To keep me busy in the spaces between commissions, I like to work on multiple passion projects. I like to think this will eventually lead me to a certain theme I enjoy or just push my illustration and design work in general. It gives me the chance to experiment freely and enjoy the parts of being creative that are sometimes forgotten about in the midst of deadlines and briefs.”

  • Bread & Butter Mural

I had the opportunity to design one of the walls in Bread & Butter Eatery in Wellington, NZ. It was such a great way to add colour and warmth to the space!

  • Skate deck project

I’m in the process of finishing painting this skate deck - the idea will be to turn the coloured blobs into characters with a black pen when the board is covered, again with Posca and then varnish. I’m going to try experimenting with more wooden features and see if I can start creating bigger art instead of working at A4 all the time.

  • spiced up planter

Decorating dull objects. This reminded me of when I decorated my mum’s shed door during lockdown 2020 - with the mushrooms and sunflowers making a comeback.

  • shed door mural

During May 2020, I decided to create a mural on my mum’s shed door. Each day of lockdown, I added more. The weather was amazing so it was nice to be able to make the most of it and not go stir-crazy. Creating gnome characters, sunflowers with weary eyes and animals.

This project cheered my family and I up a lot, as it was something new to look at everyday - and it still is!

  • Calendar

I made my very own belated Megmayo Calendar ready for my mum’s birthday in February, see my blog for the full calendar month by month.
